Our leagues are slightly different for Spring, Summer and Fall.  Please look below for info on the specific season you are interested in.

Instructional League (Spring)

The Instructional league is an introductory league for 1st- 2nd grade aged girls.  Led by a professional instructors from Brand New Ballgame and members of the Walpole High School softball team.  The goal of this league is to introduce the basic fundamentals of softball, while they have fun with their teammates. They will learn how to properly throw, field, and hit a ball, as well as proper base running – which includes our famous relay races around the bases. Many age appropriate drills will be utilized to teach these skills, but the drills will look more like games to the girls. It's a time to have fun while learning.  Teams are usually put together by the elementary school the girls attend.  There will be practices with other teams & games scattered throughout the season to ensure the girls interact plenty with everyone in this league.

Practice nights will be:

Wednesday’s   6:00 pm to 7:30 pm   (Johnson Middle School Field 2)
Sunday’s 10:00 am to 11:30 am  (Johnson Middle School Field 2)

Minor League (Spring)

The Minor League is where we combine the basic skills the players have learned in Instructional and put it into real game play with actual pitching led by the players and officiating by league trained umpires. This league will be for players in 3rd - 5th grade.  There will be a 1 ½ hour clinic / practice per week where the girls will all practice together as a league. The intent is to continue to develop their skills, while ensuring the training they receive is consistent throughout.  Coaches will have the option to hold additional practices at their discretion, if and when field times are available. There will also be two games a week played every Tuesday and Thursday. At this age group the girls will really develop by putting together what they have learned in the weekly skills practices into a real game setting. Teams will be put together with 3rd- 5th grade girls of all skill levels being on each team.   Standings are kept and the end of the season will feature a single elimination playoff tournament at it's conclusion.

Games: Monday's and Wednesday's @ 5:45 p.m.

Clinic:  Sunday’s  5:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.

Season starts April 25th

Norfolk County Softball League (Spring)

This division ramps up the competition level, to keep pace with the players abilities.  Teams will play games twice a week (Monday’s and Wednesday’s)  against other Walpole teams as well as Norwood and Westwood teams.  Fundamentals will still be stressed, but situational play will be introduced in practices as well.  Standings are kept and the end of the season will feature a double elimination tournament at it's conclusion.  Players will pitch from 40 feet with a 12 inch ball.  Games will be 6 innings and will often finish in under two hours.  Runners can steal 2nd, 3rd and Home. They will also have an additional practices during the week at the coaches discretion and pending field availability.  Teams will be divided up based on skill level to make sure teams are as even as possible.  There will be a mandatory skills session that everyone in Juniors will be required to attend in the early April timeframe.
